NASK - this is where you'll get your degree in security engineering

14.07.2023

The Council for Scientific Excellence in Poland has granted the NASK – National Research Institute the right to grant doctoral and postdoctoral degrees in a new scientific discipline: security engineering. This is the second discipline in which NASK-PIB will receive a scientific category, in addition to the existing information and communication technologies.

Due to the development of cybercrime, research into the security of networks and information systems is one of the key areas of modern engineering science. The awarded rights strengthen NASK’s status as a key scientific institution in Poland’s cybersecurity system, but also an important partner providing services to Internet users, the financial sector, producers and device testers. As part of its security engineering projects, NASK works on methods of protecting information, technologies for processing and analyzing data on incidents, as well as on system vulnerabilities. It also analyzes network traffic and, as part of its projects, mitigates the effects of DDoS attacks. It protects data exchanges in ICT networks using optical quantum cryptology technologies. NASK is also using machine learning to protect e-banking users.

The new discipline is an appreciation of our potential, but also the best motivation for development. It is an impulse for increased scientific research, publication activities or further promotion of our achievements in the academic world, says Michał Karpowicz, Ph.D., director of scientific affairs at NASK-PIB.

NASK SCIENCE, operating within the structure of NASK-PIB, has been conducting research in the area of artificial intelligence, cybersecurity systems, cloud computing and intelligent networks as well as advanced studies.
