Young NASK Researchers at International Summer Schools
While summer is often associated with holidays and relaxation, it is also an important period for researchers to develop new skills, expand their knowledge, and build international scientific networks.
In recent months, NASK researchers have actively participated in prestigious summer schools, gaining valuable experience and engaging directly with leading experts from around the world.
This year, Michał Koźbiał from the Audiovisual Analysis and Biometric Systems Department and Maciej Chrabąszcz from the AI Safety and Transparency Department took part in two different international summer schools. Both events provided excellent opportunities to deepen their expertise in areas closely related to NASK’s research.
Exploring AI Safety at MLSS Kraków
Maciej Chrabąszcz attended the Machine Learning Summer School (MLSS) in Kraków, one of the most recognized educational events dedicated to machine learning and artificial intelligence.
“Participating in this year’s MLSS in Kraków gave me a unique opportunity to learn about the latest research conducted by leading scientists working on AI safety. Beyond the lectures, it was also a great chance to exchange ideas and connect with researchers who focus on these topics in their daily work,” says Maciej.
The summer school brought together experts and early-career researchers from across the globe, creating a vibrant environment for discussing recent advances in artificial intelligence, with a particular focus on safety, transparency, and the responsible development of AI systems.
Digital Forensics and the Challenges of the Deepfake Era
Meanwhile, between 12 and 18 July 2026, Michał Koźbiał participated in the International Forensics Summer School 2026 (IFOSS2026) held in Sicily, Italy.
“I had the opportunity to attend the International Forensics Summer School 2026 (IFOSS2026) in sunny Sicily,” recalls Michał.
This year’s edition focused on highly relevant topics related to the trustworthiness of artificial intelligence in forensic science and the justice system. Participants explored issues such as scientific rigor, legal validity, and the development of common standards for digital evidence.
These challenges are becoming increasingly important in the era of generative AI and the growing prevalence of deepfake content, raising new questions about authenticity, verification, and the reliability of digital evidence in legal and investigative contexts.
“It was an intensive and highly rewarding experience, filled with inspiring lectures, discussions, and opportunities to exchange knowledge. I was also glad to meet many interesting people and establish valuable connections with representatives from both industry and academia,” Michał summarizes.
Supporting Scientific Growth and International Collaboration
Participation in summer schools offers much more than access to specialized knowledge. It enables researchers to build international networks, exchange ideas with peers from different disciplines, and explore new opportunities for scientific collaboration.
